procrastinators unite!

…tomorrow of course. I have a tendency to wait until Friday and cram 3 days worth of work into a day. The rest of my week gets sucked away by meetings and other “emergency” type situations and I allow it because I just keep thinking, “I’ve got friday.” I’ve realized that when I do that my creativity and productivity is compromised. It becomes acceptable to skimp by on certain details that I would have never let fly on Monday. I wind up having a “gotta get it done” attitude which has to be one of the biggest enemies of excellence. I feel like I take the wind out of my own sails a lot of times, I may have a great idea but because I wait until the last minute I don’t give the idea the time that it deserves.

I’m beginning next week with plan and a purpose (that sounds like the procrastinators pledge doesn’t it) and I’m going to protect my ideas and creativity from being sucked away for any “good” reason.

I know its sad to admit but I’ve never watched any of Lost and now with the writers strike limiting the shows that are going to be new I’ve decided that now is a great time to start. And thanks ABC for making it easy for me. If you haven’t already heard abc.com has posted all the episodes of the series online in HD. So if there is anyone like me who needs to watch from the beginning or if you just need some freshening up go here to see it all. We’ve got until the 31st, so lets get crackin.

Check this funny video out about the most common font used in Movie trailers, posters, and DVD covers. You may not know what Trajan looks like, but I guarantee you’ve seen it over and over again. It made we wonder how many fonts we over use around here… ummm probably a lot. Check it out here.

reading list

I’m a terrible reader, not in the sense that I don’t read good, but in the sense that I’m slow and have a fear of commitment. I typically get about 3 to 4 chapters into a book then ditch it because I’m bored (my ADD kicks in). But one of my goals this year is to read a little more, which means 5 to 6 chapters of about 5 books (up from 3 in previous years). Here are the top 5 on my list and hopefully I’ll surprise myself and read even more. (any suggestions?)

Also, I am starting season 1 of Lost tonight, so I’ve got a lot to catch up on before Jan 31st (season 4 premiere). um probably not much reading going to happen between now and then… so much for new years goals.

Happy New Year everybody, tonight Beck and I played Wii with our friends Shannon and Kristi and I’ve got to say, I rocked the joint. I haven’t played a lot yet, and honestly I haven’t played many video games since college, but I think I’m addicted. So I’m thinking that’ll be the next big purchase for the Taylor home. In Wii world I am 38 according to my fitness score… which is not great, but its better than Shannon’s 73 (sorry man). Leaving tonight Beck said she would only allow us to get one if we put boundaries on it because she’s worried I’ll be obsessed “like I am with my iPhone.” Ahhh women, they just don’t get it.

christmas 07 highlights

First off, I’ve been dark for a week now, its been nice but I’m back… So a big Merry Christmas to everybody (better late than never right).

- Seeing Bella’s reaction to every single gift (it was so much fun)
- Getting a HD DVD player… oh yea
- Getting wireless headphones for my HD Player (for late night movies… Bella’s a light sleeper)
- Gift cards! (whats up with having to always have the exact balance on Visa gift cards to use it)
- Hangin with my girls
- Time off
- Bella calling a old rather large man in Wal-Mart HO HO… that was fun

Here is a very cool article with Denzel Washington about his faith and how he walks it out in Hollywood. Definitely check it out. I love that I get to categorize this as both faith and film… thats cool.

christmas traditions

Last night we had an event called Fusion Christmas which was a Christmas party for our fusion groups and an unveiling of our new types of groups that are beginning in January. (Shannon’s got a breakdown if you want to find out more) It was a lot of fun and lots of great food, but the best thing that went down last night was our traditional Christmas Carol Karaoke, or as we call it Caroloke. Which is awesome. I started this several years back when I was college pastor and its stuck and now all the ministries are doing it. We do them along with a really cheesy video (from ace karaoke) that has the bouncing ball prompter and everything, that is as funny as the people singing due to all the cheesiness. It’s a lot of fun, especially if you get the right people up there. Just thought I’d pass the idea along.
