one font to rule them all
January 3, 2008

Check this funny video out about the most common font used in Movie trailers, posters, and DVD covers. You may not know what Trajan looks like, but I guarantee you’ve seen it over and over again. It made we wonder how many fonts we over use around here… ummm probably a lot. Check it out here.

Here is a very cool article with Denzel Washington about his faith and how he walks it out in Hollywood. Definitely check it out. I love that I get to categorize this as both faith and film… thats cool.

a quick review
December 15, 2007

I got to see I Am Legend last night, and let me just say first off that this movie is awesome and you’ve got to see it in the theater. I love Will Smith and he doesn’t disappoint at all, he’s as good as usual. He plays Robert Neville, the last survivor in NYC of a virus that has wiped out most of the earth’s population and he’s the one guy that won’t give up on humanity. Even though its 3 years later and the odds are ridiculously stacked against him he fights on to find a cure for KV. The abandoned streets of New York play one of the characters in the movie, in the opening sequence Neville and his dog Sam are driving through the deserted streets hunting deer, and through this sequence you get a view of NY that you’d never expect, it’s breathtaking and painful at the same time. Legend is truly a great thriller that’s not too jam packed with scare tactics and “dark seekers”, its controlled and has room to breath.
Ultimately Legend is about a guy who’s lost his faith, who believes that God has died along with the billions of people infected. It’s about a guy finding the faith he’s lost and continuing on with hope that the world can be saved.
Last note: The final voice over is beautiful, I wish I could remember it better, but if you go see it, really listen to the final moments and let them sink in.

movie review: american gangster
November 3, 2007

I’ve already heard it called the “Black Scarface” or the “Harlem Godfather” and that’s exactly what it is. It’s no wonder its already getting Oscar buzz, both Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe were amazing. First off, Washington’s Frank Lucas is powerful in his portrayal of the real life drug lord, and Crowe as the Serpico-like New Jersey cop Richie Roberts is so real and honest in his passionate pursuit to bring Frank down. Gangster was beautifully shot by Harris Savides with amazing accuracy to the seventies. And the always fantastic Ridley Scott was at the top of his game directing the heck out of this epic crime drama.
I loved it, it’s long (clocking in at 157 minutes) but its worth it. I would say that this is probably one of the most well rounded movies to hit the theaters in a long time.
Leave me a comment to let me know what you thought about the movie.
