make ideas happen

September 7, 2007

I was just handed a package that arrived for me, across the top in huge letters it said, “MAKE IDEAS HAPPEN“. Wow. Being in a creative field, a lot of times I get an idea and the bigger the idea gets the more overwhelmed it feels. I’m excited about the end product, but all the steps to get there seem so big that I’m not sure I will make it to the fruition of the idea. Right now we are going through some major overhauls here at BCC, and its so easy to get sidetracked or even shy away from the challange of making the idea a reality. So here I sit, and enters this box with 3 words that got me excited. The box came from a company called behance, whose sole purpose is to provide organization products for creative people. Products to help us organize ideas, and then put them in an action list to step by step get us to the final product. It’s a breath of fresh air in my world right now, a much needed encourager that says I’m not alone.

It’s common for me to have great ideas, but for one reason or another they never materalize. Maybe its disorganization or maybe its just a really bad memory. But no matter what the reason is its such a shame that the world never gets to witness our ideas and creativity. Inside this box that I got today is a book called the Action Book which behance developed to help creative professionals make ideas happen. Their theory or philosophy is “Productive Creativity” which is great because creativity without the productivity is just a dream or idea. And an idea in my head doesn’t really go that far to help anyone or change anything until it materalizes. Maybe this resource will help me sort through it all… maybe it will help you too.
