death by meeting
September 7, 2007
Buddy Cremeans recently blogged about the Patrick Lencioni book Death by Meeting, which really hits home with me right now because I have spent the last day and a half in meetings… which is so draining and overwhelming. Buddy’s blog has really got me thinking about our meetings and causing me to rethink how we communicate. Here are his hightlights from the book:
• If your meetings are boring, your business is boring.
• Think about your meetings like movies…What would the critics say?
• If you are facilitating a meeting, you need to lead with energy and passion!
• Find the tension in your topic and give permission for different opinions.
• Quit trying to make your meeting all-inclusive, all-purposeful…be strategic and specific.
• Before they attend the meeting, give your team the topic(s) so they can be fully prepared to engage.
Well, this has caused me to order the book and seriously work on changing the way we do things. So as soon as I read it I will post some of my thoughts and the specific ideas we are going to implement.
